The Kigalama Children's Initiative (KICHIN)
We are partnered with The Kigalama Children’s Initiative (KICHIN), a local NGO located in Kigalama. It is currently comprised of 95 families including over 500 children, 292 of whom are orphans. KICHIN is a UN sanctioned organization founded by the late Justine Sabagereka and retired clergy, Samuel and Mary Tusuubira, with the support of village and sub-county councilors. As members of KICHIN, the families who take in and nurture orphans collectively work on improving conditions for the children in their care by providing a supportive and safe environment.
Santa Maria Health Clinic, Mityana
Health care is no less of a challenge for the Kigalama population. From his small hospital in Mityana, six miles away from Kigalama, Dr. Mugambe stretches meagre resources to meet the ever growing health needs of this region. Like KICHIN he has been a willing and eager partner with KEHF.
His small Clinic provides both in- and outpatient care under very challenging conditions. He also makes visits to the community to provide preventative medical exams, education about disease prevention, and occasional immunizations. Lack of funding, staff, and equipment continues to limit the doctor’s effectiveness and ability to make visits. Among other things, KEHF is looking for more healthcare partners to help expand and improve on this effort.
